World Cup Outsider Watch

Teams that could spring a surprise at the 2026 World Cup.

Ecuador: the 100/1 outsiders nobody will want to face

If you want a team that is fundamentally built to grind through a knockout tournament, look at Ecuador. They are priced as massive outsiders, but their qualification campaign tells a completely different story.

The Form

Ecuador quietly finished second in the brutal CONMEBOL qualifying table, ahead of both Brazil and Uruguay.

The Defensive Rock

They possess one of the most disciplined and physically imposing defensive structures in international football. Across 18 gruelling South American qualifiers they conceded only five goals.

Why They Are Dangerous

Ecuador are an absolute nightmare to play against. Moisés Caicedo anchors the midfield, while Paris Saint-Germain's Willian Pacho and Arsenal's Piero Hincapié provide quality at the back.

Add teenage star Kendry Páez and they have enough creativity to punish opponents once frustration starts to set in.

ScoreCast24 Verdict: Ecuador may not win the World Cup, but they are exactly the kind of side capable of ending a favourite's tournament.

Honourable Mention: Türkiye (100/1)

If you prefer an unpredictable, high-ceiling maverick team, Vincenzo Montella's Türkiye are worth watching.

They possess two of the most exciting young attacking talents in Europe: Arda Güler of Real Madrid and Kenan Yıldız of Juventus.

Under Hakan Çalhanoğlu's leadership, if those young stars click, Türkiye can outscore almost anybody.

ScoreCast24 Verdict: Türkiye are the ultimate wildcard. Their inconsistency makes them difficult to trust, but their attacking talent could make them one of the tournament's most entertaining sides.
